Density-Based Optimization of the Laser Powder Bed Fusion Process Based on a Modelling Framework

One of the main challenges encountered in Laser-based Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) Additive Manufacturing (AM) process is fabrication defect-free parts. The presence defects severely degrades mechanical performance AM parts and especially their fatigue strength. most popular reliable method to assess ability employed parameters for full-density windows map, also known as printability map. However, experimental procedure design maps identification optimum-density usually time-consuming expensive. In present work, a modelling framework presented determination map optimization L-PBF based on prediction characterization melt-pool geometric features porosity small samples 316L SS Ti-6Al-4V metal alloys. results are compared with available data good correlation, verifying methodology. suitability defect criteria each material effect hatch-spacing parameter presented.
